Vanderburgh House

After you, complete inpatient drug or alcohol rehab, your counselors and medical team will meet with you to discuss what’s next. During this conversation, you may learn about opportunities for transitional living. These are usually locations with some supportive structure in place. Each Vanderburgh House has a dedicated house manager whose responsibility is to ensure the well being of the house occupants. All with at least one year of sobriety, the house managers show a commitment to working a 12-step program in their daily lives, and demonstrate through their actions that they can lead by example. Typically having gone through one of the sober houses, house managers encourage house members to talk about what is going on with their lives and recovery, and to help house residents to be accountable to one another.

A supervised residence is yet another option run by a group of people. The individuals managing the location are licensed professionals, though this licensing differs from one area to the next. A final form is a service provider, which is more like an institutional provider. This level of care is higher, though not formally the same thing as an intensive inpatient treatment program.

Jesse had vacant rooms so he offered his home to this individual under the condition they maintained their sobriety. He didn’t know it at the time, but this Vanderburgh House would be the first of many people he would offer shelter and safe haven to. As time went on he forged his way through his own battles to maintain sobriety. He filled every one of his empty rooms and found support and purpose through service.

Stepping Stones of Atlanta is also part of Atlanta Resources 4 Recovery which offers scholarships for those seeking treatment. However, most halfway homes have the goal of supporting you to recovery through a structured environment. They offer a higher level of focus on social support, giving you someone to talk to and help you. They also provide the same types of services most sober homes do, such as helping you to make it to 12-step meetings and teaching you life skills. People recovering from addiction needs a stepping stone from the inpatient care within our program to their new life. This is where transitional housing, also called sober homes, 3/4 homes or halfway houses, comes into play.

  1. They offer a higher level of focus on social support, giving you someone to talk to and help you.
  2. Our founder Jesse was saved by the love, support, and accountability that was created by the sober living home he unintentionally created for himself after finding his own rock bottom.
  3. Are you in the midst of planning a celebration of life ceremony?
  4. A study published in the Journal of Psychoactive Drugs by the Alcohol Research Group Public Health Institute showcased the importance of social and environmental factors in recovery.

Our Mission is to help individuals in recovery to bridge the gap from where they are, to where they are going. We offer peer support, encouragement, and a safe stable environment for people as they grow and learn how to thrive in our community! The National Alliance for Recovery Residences is an organization that aims to educate on sober living homes while also providing support for those running them. One of the ways it has done so is to create what it calls a recovery residence — a single term that represents transitional living.

One Alcoholic, one Addict helping another he found strength and hope in numbers. With the help of the 12 principles of recovery Jesse opened Steppingstones Recovery Homes in 2022 to give a chance to others who were willing to travel the road of recovery, and need some help along the way. Individuals battling substance abuse need an opportunity to detox as well as intense residential care in many situations. Our team at FHE Health can help you or your loved one to obtain that care. From here, we can help you move into transitional living or a sober house right for your best steps forward.
